From a scraped knee to a broken limb, although it may hurt, in order for it to get better, you have to give it time to heal. Betrayal, abandonment, abuse (mentally or physically) hurts as well, but does not heal with time alone. The key ingredient to healing is — forgiveness.
By no means, will God allow us to go through something without it working for our good. Every hardship and every pain we experience is not wasted. Our Father is showing us something. Either we will ignore it and go through the pain again, or we will see it as coming from God and allow it to change our direction. God’s ways may not make any sense to us, and we may not like it, but every pain, every heartache, every bruise in our life is to accomplish His will. To open our eyes, think differently, and change our direction from the normal.
Therefore, whomever it is that has hurt you in the past, forgive with your mouth — say it with your mouth and begin healing your wounds. Go to your closet in prayer, mentally sit that other person across from you, and forgive them. Release them from the resentment, bitterness, and anger. Tell them, you no longer hold them guilty. The sooner you do this, the quicker your wounds will heal. You may have to do it more than once, but you will begin to feel healing when you do it.
Remember, God will walk through it with you. Trust Him!
Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV) – be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Very good post! There is so much power and healing in forgiveness.
