Salt changes the flavor of things. As a believer, so should you.
If you conform yourself to this world, you have become just like the world, therefore, you are good for nothing.
Be the change you want to see.
Matthew 5:13 (KJV) – ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

What you said reminds me of Psalm 84.5-7, which says: Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion.” It is the idea that they leave behind them good.
